Jason Reed: Black Gold: Field Notes
January 30 – February 16
Opening Reception: Monday, January 30 | 5 – 7 p.m.
Jason Reed, CFO Office (Overlooking Midland), 2015.
Black Gold is a chapter within the larger body of work, Victory in the Wilderness.
A fragmented index; a collection of field notes; a living archive. At once about place and perception, Victory in the Wilderness represents an ongoing and long-term exploration of my West Texas homeland. Utilizing varied modes of photographic representation I look intently at the interplay between culture and the land, with a pointed interest in how indexing layers of both geography and visual culture can help us critically reflect upon the nature of a place and its intersecting histories.
Jason Reed is co-founder and lead artist of Borderland Collective and Associate Professor of Photography at Texas State University. He has created gallery and public space exhibitions of collaborative work in Texas, Illinois, Brooklyn, Washington, D.C. and Mexico City. His individual work has been exhibited at such places as Co-Lab Gallery in Austin, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Galerie Reinthaler in Vienna, Austria, Dallas Contemporary, and the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin. Jason holds a BA in Geography from the University of Texas and an MFA in Photography from Illinois State University. This entry was posted in Spring 2017 Exhibitions.
