This annual competition for School of Art & Design students is a celebration of works generated within our curriculum, selected from over 300 entries by curator and guest juror, Claudia Schmuckli, who serves as the Director of the Blaffer Museum at the University of Houston.

Del Harrow is a conceptual sculptor whose work consists of site-specific installations, sculptures, and limited edition objects that explore themes of the historical practice and mythologies of individual “Modern” Artists, verbal and visual systems of abstraction, and the visual experience of images in relation to the physical experience of objects.

Members of BOX 13 – Heather Bause, Elaine Bradford, Dennis Harper, Michael Henderson, Kathy Kelley, Emily Link, David McClain, Tudor Mitroi, Lauren Moya Ford, Dennis Nance, Kia Neill, Mark Ponder, Whitney Riley, Jenny Schlief, Emily Sloan and Maria Smits – form collaborative teams from within their Houston artists’ collective. In support of this year’s Common Experience Topic, The Freedoms of the First Amendment, the collaborative pairings make works that explore ideas of artistic freedom of expression.

Each year, the faculty in the School of Art & Design takes the opportunity to share their own creative work with the University and surrounding community. A survey of artistic styles and disciplines, this exhibition is reflective of each faculty member’s current direction of work and is a chance for students and others to share in the creative lives of the Art and Design Faculty at Texas State.
